This school has everything I was looking for when I started. I sweat every time I'm in class, but the intense workout does not take away from the real self defense skills I'm learning. I tried kickboxing gyms before, and the instruction never went passes a knee kick, jab, hook punch and a roundhouse kick. These few techniques did not give me the confidence I needed to know that I could properly defend my self in any situation. I highly recommend this school to anyone who is looking to learn real martial arts skills while gaining or keeping up a high fitness level. This place is great! I would recommend stopping in to this school before signing up any where else.

I have never practiced martial arts before but as a small woman (4'10" ) I have always been interested in the best way to defend myself. I have been taking the adult martial arts program at the School of Martial Arts-West LA for the past six months and all I can say is that it is the best choice I could have made. The curriculum that is taught is for all shapes and sizes which is perfect for me being as short as I am,the basic techniques make complete sense and when it comes to the self defense techniques Sifu Ryan Scott teaches moves that make even my-self at 4'10" feel confident with defending myself in any situation. This school is a wonderful place to practice!

As a student of martial arts for over 20 years I have had the opportunity to visit many schools, but by far The School of Martial Arts-West LA provides one of the best overall experiences I have seen. The students are immersed not only in a positive/safe learning environment due to their "partners not opponents" foundation but also an environment that is welcoming and friendly to everyone who walks through the door. As each student arrives they are greeted by name by the staff, which is quite rare to see in most schools. Also the fusion of traditional and modern martial arts mixed with a logical and scientific approach to the techniques taught, helps make what the students are learning to be the most practical and efficient form of self-defense. What I feel also separates this school from the rest is that Sifu Ryan Scott, the owner and head instructor teaches ALL of the classes from the 6-8 yrs. to the adult martial arts class every day. In my experience the owner of most martial arts schools rarely teach any of the classes especially the young kids, most seem to teach only the advanced adult classes if any at all. So if you’re in the area and looking for a great place to practice kids or adults you should go in and see what I'm talking about, you will not be disappointed.
